Monthly Letter from Pastor Wanda
As I write this it is snowing, again and I am wondering if spring will ever come. We are two weeks into our Lenten journey and we are trudging along with out faces down against the cold, blustery winter.
Two weeks ago we began our Lenten quest by receiving the sign of the cross on Ash Wednesday. With our foreheads smeared with ashes, we were reminded of our failings and our mortality. We were reminded that we are humans and we are not perfect. We make mistakes.
We were challenged to do four things during our 40 day Lenten adventure.
- Spend time in reflection and introspection.
- Recall and repent what we have done and left undone.
- Remember Gods grace, love and forgiveness
- Renew our commitment to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
and experience the new life that He promises.
Stephanie Paulsilll writes “The smeared crosses on our foreheads are an incarnational work of art that helps us confront our greatest fear. When we are marked with ashes we are marked not only with a sign of our mortality but also with a sign of the struggle to remain human under the greatest possible pressure. We follow Jesus into the desert of Lent to learn about the most mysterious possibilities that our humanity holds: healing, resistance, love and forgiveness. Again and again, year after year – He teaches us that human life holds more possibilities than we’ve ever imagined.”
Throughout the Season of Lent this year, I will be preaching and teaching about one theme, one amazing equation; Brokenness + Redemption = Transformation. It is an age old message that we need to hear again and again, perhaps now, more than ever before.
I hope that you will make time in your busy schedule for worship, prayer, conversation and contemplation. I hope that you will participate in our Bible Study on the Book of James every Tuesday evening. I hope that you will be sure to attend all of our Holy Week Services. I truly believe that you cannot fully comprehend the celebration of Easter without experiencing the events of Holy Week. I challenge you to come to each service and bring someone with you. You will both blessed beyond measure. Please see page for the full Holy Week Schedule and Easter
Remember: Brokenness +Redemption =Transformation
Blessings & Peace, Pastor Wanda

This year there will be 3 options for obtaining flowers for the sanctuary. The first option is the traditional ordering from the florist at a cost of $35.00. The second option will be to purchase your own bouquet and you can then divide the bouquet in half for each flower container. The last option will be for you to purchase two artificial bouquets at any craft store and if you would like the flowers can then be held at the church for future Sundays. If you have any questions please call the church office at 516-354-1848.
