The Monthly Letter from Pastor Wanda - July & August 2014

Every year I look forward to the simple pleasures of summer: children giggling, singing & dancing at VBS  as they learn about Gods incredible love, fireflies twinkling at dusk, fresh strawberries on waffles with oodles of whipped cream, ripe tomatoes eaten like an apple, the juice running down my chin, flying a kite at the beach, summer reading, bike riding, strawberry rhubarb pie, children laughing and running through the  sprinkler, sipping cool ice tea and lemonade on a hot day, long conversations with friends, the annual youth mission trip and summer worship.

This year we have two youth mission trips. The first is scheduled for July 6th -13th . We are traveling to Tecalgicalpa, Honduras. We will be working on four important endeavors including making blocks and building homes, learning about water purification, working with Heifer International on issues like hunger and sustainability as well as reaching out to the children in the area. I am very proud of the young people who are participating in this life-changing mission experience. Please remember them in your prayers.

The second trip is for the younger group. They are going to be working at Camp Holmes, July 28- August 1. They will be painting cabins, cleaning trails, working on the farm and doing other projects around the camp. They will be learning about how to trust Christ, work hard and make a difference in the world. I am also proud of these amazing young people.

One of my favorite parts of the season is our summer worship experience. I look forward to gathering together in the Social Hall to worship in a less formal, more interactive atmosphere. It is refreshing to be together in the air conditioned Social Hall and to have a chance to share our God sightings and spiritual reflection with one another. This year, we will add some interactive prayer stations to some of our summer worship services. Please invite a friend to come to worship with you this summer. Don’t forget that we meet at 9:30 a.m., which allows a little more time for a summer outing or brunch after our worship experience.

I hope that you take time to enjoy some of the simple pleasures of life this summer. May you experience the fullness of God’s love day by day and moment by moment.

Blessings & Peace,

Pastor Wanda

Sanctuary Flowers

This year there will be 3 options for obtaining flowers for the sanctuary.  The first option is the traditional ordering from the florist at a cost of $35.00. The second option will be to purchase your own bouquet and you can then divide the bouquet in half for each flower container.  The last option will be for you to purchase two artificial bouquets at any craft store and if you would like the flowers can then be held at the church for future Sundays. If you have any questions please call the church office at 516-354-1848.

Our coral and handbell choir led by Carol Dort always adds inspiring and uplifting music to our worship service.  We especially look forward to their musical contributions during this joyous season.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful and faithful usher teams led by dedicated and committed team captains. Their commitment and enthusiasm to the task of ushering shines each week as they welcome and supply you with the Sunday bulletin.  You can be certain that you could call upon any one of them should the need arise during the service.

Thank you to everyone who assists Pastor Wanda in the service by reading/leading prayers and scriptures.Your dedication and service to the Lord and this wonderful congregation is appreciated. Please use the sign-up sheet in the Colonial Room or call the church office 516-354-1848 if you would like to participate in the worship service

Our Thursdays Ladies – our tireless Presbyterian womens group who contribute so much.
